Some one asked the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam):
“What actions are most excellent?”
The Prophet of God (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) replied,
“ To gladden the heart of a human being, to feed the hungry, to help the afflicted, to lighten the sorrow of the sorrowful, and to remove the wrongs of the injured.”

On the Authority of Anas ibn Malik, The Prophet (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said,
“If a Muslim farms the land or plants a tree, and then a bird, a beast or a man eats something from it, he receives in return the reward of a charity.”

“A Muslim who plants a tree or sows a field, from which man, birds and animals can eat, is committing an act of charity.”

Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr ‘Abdullah (Radiyallahu `anhu), a person asked Allah’s Apostle (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam),
“What (sort of) deeds in or (what qualities of) Islam are good?”
He replied,
“To feed (the poor) and greet those whom you know and those whom you don’t know.”

The Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said,
“Once, a man saw the branch of a tree in the middle of a road. So, he said, ‘By Allah, I will remove this from the path of the Muslims so they may not be hurt. ‘ For this action, he was put in Paradise.”

Reported by Abu Dharr (Radiyallaahu `anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam) said,
“Do not belittle any good deed, even your meeting your brother with a cheerful face.”
